Your personal safety does not have to be left to chance and is something you can be in control of. Even though you cannot eliminate all possibility of becoming a victim, there are steps you can take to reduce the odds. It is important to realize that personal safety is about risk reduction, using good common sense, and trusting your instincts.

Sergeant Preston Taylor is a police officer in Northern Michigan with over 17 years of experience. During his career he has become certified as an instructor in several different areas of Defensive Tactics including hands on, taser, and pepper spray. In addition, Taylor is a lead Instructor at Northwestern Michigan College’s Police Academy. In 2005, Taylor formed Grand Traverse Personal Protection, a company that provides public speaking and instruction to individuals who want to take ownership of their personal safety. Taylor has also been active in the martial arts since the age of 13 earning black belts in Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwon Do.
